Governors Ball is New York’s flagship music fest, so there’s a lot riding on its shoulder. In a city historically renowned for its progressive proliferation of all types of art, it’s weird that there’s only one big music fest in the area. But when Kanye West is headlining, who needs anything else?
Yeah, Yeezus has been announced as the top-line act for the 2016 Gov Ball, along with NYC fogies the Strokes and Las Vegas cornballs the Killers. The bookers of the fest seem to have followed in the financially bulletproof footsteps of the folks over at Coachella, who booked established acts LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses as their headliners.
The festival will be held on June 4, 5, and 6. Tickets are pretty ridiculously expensive, as can be expected. The full lineup is available over at the Governors Ball site, but here are some standouts: Beck, Robyn, Father John Misty, Jamie XX, M83, Bloc Party, Miguel, Eagles of Death Metal, Action Bronson, Vic Mensa, Against Me!, Christine and the Queens, FIDLAR, Torres, Bully, and Nothing. The festival will take place on Randall’s Island Park.
