Jim Carrey’s Dark Comedy ‘I’m Dying Up Here’ Coming to Showtime

Jim Carrey is returning to TV. Variety is reporting that his dark, ’70s-era comedy I’m Dying Up Here has been ordered to series over at Showtime.

Little is known about the show, as it was just announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour by Showtime president David Nevins, but it’ll be set in the world of Los Angeles comedy clubs in the 1970s. This is where some of comedy’s legends got their start, so, if the writing is good, and the actors are good, and things are actually funny and well written, it could be a real goldmine. Ari Graynor, Melissa Leo, and Clark Duke will star.

Carrey is certainly capable of pulling this off, given his ability to delve into the surreal, as was seen at this past Sunday’s Golden Globes. That might mean absolutely nothing, though, because, as of now, Carrey is just on as an executive producer.
