It has been announced that Ben Stiller’s series adaptation of Gary Shteyngart’s Super Sad True Love Story has been picked up by Showtime, with Stiller set to direct.
Stiller, Shteyngart, and co-writer Karl Gajdusek (Oblivion, Dead Like Me) will all serve as executive producers of the adaptation of Shteyngart’s somewhat dystopian novel, which is set in a New York City that is dominated by retail merchandisers and a constant, overbearing media presence. So, that is to say, there will be no major need for the filmmakers to cosmetically alter NYC as it is now, because it is basically that.
Stiller’s most recent directorial effort is the upcoming Zoolander 2, with past credits including Tropic Thunder, The Cable Guy, and Reality Bites.
