British trip-hop stalwarts Massive Attack have released a new EP, Ritual Spirit, their first new body of work in five years — unless you count the stuff they released through a “sensory music player” earlier this month. With it, they’ve released a video for track “Take It There,” which features a collaboration with Tricky, a longtime pal of Massive Attack. John Hawkes stars in the video.
The four-track EP also features Roots Manuva, Azekel, and Young Fathers. The group plans to release a second EP this year, co-produced by Massive Attack founding member Daddy G. Tricky has had a long relationship with the band, working with them first on 1991’s Blue Lines, an album often cited as the originator of the entire genre of trip-hop, from which many of today’s bands (Animal Collective, Wild Nothing, all of chillwave, etc.) have sprung.
Watch the video for “Take It There” below. It features actor John Hawkes stumbling through streets as people dance around and interact with him. So, it’s a lot of fun.
