Back in December, Martin “PharmaBro” Shkreli bought the Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-a-kind album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, for a reported $2 million. (Chump change for someone making $750 off of a $13.50 pill, right?)
Then, last week, Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah finally spoke up (in an interview with TMZ) to address the situation. Referring to Shkreli as a “shithead,” the Wu-Tang rapper made it clear that he was not a fan of the Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO. “You don’t just take a pill that’s $7 and make it $800,” he emphatically told to the camera. He later expressed his desire for Shkreli to release the album “to the people.”
Today, in a response to those earlier comments, Shkreli took to TMZ to send out a diss video to the rapper. Addressing him by his “government name” Dennis (“You’re not a Ghostface”), Shkreli warned the rapper of ever mentioning his name again. Over the course of the two minute video, Shkreli — standing in front of three masked “goons” menacingly drinking in the background — explained why most people don’t try to beef with him (“nobody is that dumb”), called Ghostface “an old man that’s lost his relevance,” and even called the FishScale artist his “son.”
But perhaps most interestingly, Martin Shkreli threatened to remove all of the Killah’s contributions from Once Upon a Time in Shaolin if he didn’t back down. “I’m going to erase you from the record books of rap,” he warned. “You’re going to be done.” In order to be sure that Ghostface Killah is, indeed, taking these threats seriously, Shkreli requested a “written apology from the heart, some contrition.”
Admittedly, it’s kind of weird to have an extremely well-established rapper fighting with, arguably, one of the most hated men in the world. But nevertheless, one question remains: Will Ghostface vs. Shkreli outshine Kanye vs. Wiz as the most entertaining rap beef of the year?
