[Updated] ‘Serial’ To Revisit Season 1’s Subject Matter Alongside Season 2

Let’s face it. We all love Serial and we’re obsessed with the podcast’s second season — this time, the familiar story of Bowe Bergdahl. The sixth episode of the season was posted this morning, but unfortunately we might have to wait a little longer than usual before getting episode seven and the show is also returning to last season’s subject in light of Adnan Syed’s hearing for a new trial.

Update, 2/5/2016: Serial’s producers contacted us to clarify that ’season two remains in active production and its new bi-weekly schedule remains unchanged. The new episodes concerning the Syed case are being produced alongside the Bergdahl episodes, not in lieu of them. We apologize for the misunderstanding.

This morning, the podcast’s producers, Sarah Koenig and Dana Chivvis, announced in an emailed newsletter that for the next few days they would be taking a pause from season two to focus on covering Adnan Syed’s ongoing hearing for post-conviction relief.

“This week I’m going to do something I haven’t done before, which is duck back into Adnan Syed’s case for a few days, to report on a case that’s happening in Baltimore,” Koenig explained.

Although the announcement that new Serial episodes are temporarily on hold might be disappointing for some, The producers’ alternate project should be exciting for most who got so involved with the Syed case in season one. In exchange for depriving us of new Serial episodes, Koenig and Chivvis have also promised to provide daily coverage on the Serial website, iTunes, and Pandora, so stay tuned for updates.
