HBO has shared the first trailer for Confirmation, which sees Kerry Washington playing Anita Hill, the attorney who testified against current Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas (played by Wendell Pierce in the film) on sexual harassment charges after his nomination for Supreme Court by George H.W. Bush. (Despite the accusations of many graphic, wildly inappropriate office-space come-ons, and despite the fact that Hill took a polygraph test and passed, Thomas was, as his current seat shows and as the title ironically suggests, ultimately confirmed by the Senate.)
The trailer reveals what looks like a sleek, straightforward dramatization of the case, bringing key members from the news story back to mind within that context. (Greg Kinnear plays Joe Biden, Jennifer Hudson plays Angela Wright, another witness who’d been fired by Thomas and was never called to testify).
Confirmation was penned by Erin Brockovich screenwriter Susannah Grant and directed by Dope‘s Rick Famuyiwa, and also stars Jeffrey Wright, Erika Christensen, and Bill Irwin. It’ll air on April 16, 2016.
