The Best and Worst of Last Night’s ‘SNL’ with Melissa McCarthy

Share:

Melissa McCarthy, who is set to star in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot directed by Paul Feig, was back on the SNL stage last night. It’s her fourth time hosting the series — four and 1/16th time, really, she lets us know. And the actress always seems right at home with the crew. Her hysterical antics and physical comedy were on-point as always. Musical guest Kanye was Kanye — but Beyoncé was there in spirit. See how it all went down last night, below.

The Best

Melissa McCarthy Five-Timers Monologue

Melissa McCarthy sings about hosting SNL five times set to Patrick Hernandez’s “Born to Be Alive” — except it’s really only four and 1/16 appearances.

The Day Beyoncé Turned Black

White folks can’t handle the unapologetically black music video for Beyoncé’s “Formation.”

Test Screening

McCarthy’s grimacing Dottie is terrified while watching a horror movie and wreaks havoc on everyone around her.

Movie Night

Pete Davidson captures that awkward moment we’ve all experienced when watching a sex scene in a movie while your parents are sitting next to you.

Weekend Update

Vanessa Bayer does a killer Rachel from Friends (Jennifer Aniston), while Leslie Jones makes a list of all the things she’s looking for in a man. But don’t buy her flowers, because “they stink of death.”

Kyle vs. Kanye

Kyle tries to destroy Kanye in a freestyle battle with disastrous results.

The Worst

Hillary for President Cold Open

Hillary Clinton is desperate as ever, playing piano bars (with Bill tickling the ivories), hoping to sway voters in her direction. The joke runs out of steam, too.

Pick-Up Artist

McCarthy can fit her hand in her mouth, and Cecily Strong looks better than PUA Mystery in a feather boa.

Bus

We all know someone like this. Points for the Speed joke.

Whiskers R We With Melissa McCarthy

This cat-tastic sketch is usually our jam, but the chemistry was lacking. The O. J. Simpson joke and too-long groping sesh were the only highlights.
