Maya Rudolph and Martin Short to Co-Host an NBC Variety Show

NBC hasn’t learned its lesson about variety shows, apparently. After Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris was canceled after one season and The Maya Rudolph Show was a hot mess, the network has asked Rudolph to return for round two — this time with a co-host, Martin Short. NBC has given the greenlight to a variety show that is tentatively being titled Maya and Marty in Manhattan. The series will be executive produced by the duo’s former SNL boss Lorne Michaels. No other details are being reported.

Meanwhile, Rudolph is keeping busy with a few upcoming projects, including The Angry Birds Movie (lending her voice). Short seems to be having a quiet year so far, but he was a welcome face in last year’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Difficult People.

And let’s not forget that Rudolph and Short appeared in that bizarre 40th anniversary special for SNL, possibly providing a clue as to what a variety show with the comedians will be like.
