Ab Fab‘s Edina and Patsy have catapulted from TV retirement (the series itself ended in 1995, with special new episodes popping up every so often) to the big screen. The upcoming Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie will be released on July 1, and today it got its first real teaser trailer.
It doesn’t show more than one scene, and it’s actually not clear if the footage is taken from the movie itself or is strictly promotional. Filmed almost like a karaoke video, it sees Jennifer Saunders (Edina) and Joanna Lumley (Patsy) in the midst of all sorts of sexy, lounge-y beach activities: on a boat with two objectified men, crossing the sand in a golf cart, frolicking at the edge of crashing waves with shawls flying in the wind, and drinking. Of course, drinking. Quite perfectly, it’s all set to Serge Gainsbourg’s similarly campy — but no less sexy for it — “Je T’aime,… Moi Non Plus.”
Though they’re not shown here, the film allegedly features cameos from Kate Moss, Joan Collins, Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevigne, as well as returning performances from the likes of Julia Sawalha (Saffron) June Whitfield (Mother) and Jane Horrocks (Bubble).
