‘Got to Go’: Exploring the Work of Photographer Rosalind Fox Solomon

Got to Go, the latest solo exhibition from prolific photographer Rosalind Fox Solomon, combines still images, audio, and a three-channel projection for an immersive trip through the artist’s fascinating career. The exhibition opens at Bruce Silverstein Gallery February 25 (with a book signing from 6-8PM) through April 16.

Got to Go evokes childhood memories, parents’ frantic voices, and the early imposition of deranged social codes and expectations,” the gallery writes. “Fox Solomon’s environmental installation is jarring, and psychologically freighted. The artist’s narrative overlay contextualizes her bewildering and audacious photographs.”

From the cemeteries of Peru and the living rooms of Tennessee doll collectors to the streets of New York City and the ceremonial circles of India, Fox Solomon’s work has been driven by a desire to use the camera as a tool for self-discovery, seeking the personal in the universal while exploring gender, ritual, and longing/pathos in the everyday.
