Kevin Nealon and Elizabeth Perkins to Co-star in New Amy Poehler Comedy

Kevin Nealon and Elizabeth Perkins aren’t names you see in the headlines of casting news every day, which makes today extra special, as the former Weeds co-stars have been cast, together, to star in Amy Poehler’s upcoming NBC comedy.

The as-yet-untitled show is a “royal family” comedy, so here’s hoping Kevin Nealon has to do a British accent for the show, but chances are he won’t, he’ll just be a bumbling whatever of a guy who is probably bad at his job, which, in this case, is being a king. The pilot is executive produced and directed by Amy Poehler, and was written by Charlie Grandy, an SNL vet who has also worked on The Office and The Mindy Project.

The show will be set in the fictional land of Modaria, and will focus on the inept royal family there. Specifically, it’ll center on the young, attractive prince, Nico Evers-Swindell, who is returning home from a year-long exile in America following his passing out at the coronation of his father, King Adrian (played by Nealon). Perkins will play the wife, who is named Queen Tuesday, because why not? We’ve already got a famous Wednesday, after all.
