Red Bull Music Academy Announces World Premiere of ANOHNI’s ‘Hopelessness’ Live Show, Spike Lee Talk

New York’s Red Bull Music Academy Festival has announced its series of events — from live performances to lectures to workshops — for its fourth year in existence.

One of the most exciting components of the festival this year will be the world premiere of the live show for ANOHNI’s album, Hopelessness. (Out May 6, it’s her first studio album since Antony and the Johnsons’ Swanlights). Thus far, we’ve heard two tracks from the album, both of which have shown promise of a harsh, electrified new sound for the artist (boasting production from Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke). ANOHNI will be returning to the Park Avenue Army, where she formerly performed in Robert Wilson/ Marina Abramovic’s The Life and Death of Marina Abramović.

Dizzee Rascal will also perform his 1993 album Boy in Da Corner for the first time in its entirety. Another exciting event that’s not musical, per se, but rather about music: Spike Lee will appear in conversation about music in film. The festival will also host the New York premiere of Kiki, the Sundance film that, as the Hollywood Reporter described it, provided an insider look at “the thriving [contemporary] voguing culture that provides an outlet of personal and political self-expression for at-risk LGBTQ youth-of-color.”
