This ‘Veep’ Season 5 Trailer is Extremely Electable

Veep returns in April for season five, which means we can finally watch some plausible, grounded political TV, instead of the surreal stuff we’ve been getting on CNN lately.

The show carries a lot of baggage this year. Narratively speaking, the fourth season ended with a tied presidential election. Behind the camera, the series has a new showrunner, Curb Your Enthusiasm producer David Mandel, who took over for creator Armando Iannucci.

Based on the trailer, it doesn’t look like the show will miss a beat, though: Meyer will deal with a massive financial crisis, Chinese hackers, olympic kayakers, and her Veep — played by Hugh Laurie — who might end up taking the White House from her. And even with all that, she still finds time to pick up a new sexual congress advisor, played by John Slattery.

Season five of Veep premieres April 24 on HBO.
