The Nice Guys is the latest kinda crime flick from Shane Black, who brought us Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, two very different films starring Robert Downey Jr. This one stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as two sloppy dudes trying to solve a crime, and it looks to be as messy and zingy as all of Black’s other work.
As you’ll see in the trailer below, Gosling and Crowe are mismatched here, which is kind of the comedy. Crowe is the musclebound, seasoned detective and Gosling is the young idiot, a difference made all the more explicit when the Gos’s trim suits are placed next to Crowe’s dad bod and bowling shirts.
The plot of the thing isn’t really made clear in the trailers. We just know that Gosling’s character has a kid and Crowe is good with her, even though he’s also good with a shotgun. That’s the thing, get it? These guys kill people but are also attractive and able to be nice to children, and so we should love them! And with dad bods like Crowe’s, we will.
