Bernie Sanders Put a Bird On It At a Portland Campaign Rally

It doesn’t get more Portlandia -esque than Bernie Sanders and a bird at a campaign rally in Portland, Oregon on Friday. The audience directed the Vermont senator’s attention to the feathered friend as it fluttered nearby during his speech. “Now you see, this little bird doesn’t know it . . . ” Sanders said. Before he could finish his sentence, the bird landed on his podium, and the crowd went wild. “I think there may be some symbolism here. I know it doesn’t look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us for world peace,” Sanders said. “No more wars.” And the next sound you hear is IFC cursing the timing of this event, as Portlandia‘s season six finale aired on Thursday, March 24.
