John Carpenter Stands There, Looks Cool in His “Distant Dreams” Music Video

Horror film mastermind John Carpenter has released the first music video from his upcoming album, along with the complete schedule for his band’s subsequent world tour. Both the video and the tour are tied to his upcoming album, Lost Themes II, which launches April 15.

Carpenter, of course, directed the video for the album’s first single “Distant Dream,” the song for which he released last month. The video shows him rocking out with his band in the studio. Well, “with” is a strong word. Based on the video, it looks like his bandmates, which include his son and godson, do most of the heavy lifting. He’s just hammering away at some keys.

According to Consequence of Sound, the high-contrast lighting style — by far the most interesting part of the video — reflects the aesthetic the band plans to employ during its live shows.

Carpenter announced he would embark on a tour following Lost Themes II, but had not released the complete schedule. Carpenter and his crew will be playing gigs across the U.S. and Europe from the end of May through October, including a Halloween show in London.
