The third season of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful premieres on the first of May, and yet it seems the world is still sleeping on just how great Eva Green is in this show. The new trailer for the upcoming season makes the show’s lack of popularity even more head-scratching, because it looks bonkers and beautiful. And what’s better than that?
Ignore that the trailer is scored by an awful, slowed down, Auto-Tuned version of The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize??” and pay attention to the lovely, lush set design. Pay attention to the way the underappreciated Josh Hartnett chews it up and spits it out for heaps of monsters to then chew up and spit out. Pay attention to the centuries-old demons and monsters who want to be human. But mostly, pay attention to Green, whose inherent smolder and ability to shame with a furrowed brow give this moody show more weight than its source material would lead you to believe.
It’s absurd that people aren’t talking about this show every week. That probably won’t change come May, and that’s a shame. Watch the trailer below, and tell all your friends about it.
