Hear a New Song from Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs: “Honey and Smoke”

Musical supergroups trend toward lackluster, and are often better for serving the vanity of their members than for providing fans with any real, substantive music. So far, that’s not true of case/lang/veirs, the new band from Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs. The group’s last single, “Best Kept Secret,” reminded us that the three women headlining this band have chops galore. They’ve just put out another song, “Honey and Smoke,” and, well, yeah: the hits just keep coming.

“Honey and Smoke,” as the song title might imply, hangs a little heavier on the vibe-y side of things, with lang’s weighty croon backed up by Veirs and Case’s cooing. It’s classic R&B, then, perfect for an end-of-night slow dance and thanking whichever god for your own luck in love.

The band’s self-titled album is out June 17. Listen to “Honey and Smoke” below.
