Willem Dafoe Joins ‘Justice League’ As a… Good Guy?

Willem Dafoe is such a great, underutilized actor, right? That forehead, those teeth, those eyes, that grin. Such a good villain, such a good gay cop, such a good Green Goblin, such a good Charlotte Gainsbourg tormentor, such a good Wes Anderson character. So, when news broke that Dafoe had been cast in the upcoming Justice League film, which is gonna be totally dark and spooky and serious and manly because it’s gonna be directed by Zack Snyder, you would think he’d been cast as a villain. Not true, though!

It seems that Dafoe has been cast as a “good guy” in the upcoming DC Comics extravaganza, but we don’t know which good guy. The Martian Manhunter was a founding member of the Justice League, and his inclusion in the film wasn’t really loved by David S. Goyer, who was originally tapped to write the screenplay. But he’s not writing the movie anymore, and most of the other superhero roles have been filled. Is Dafoe gonna be the Martian Manhunter? (Look out for a detective named John Jones, who is the Manhunter’s alter, human ego.)

So, who could he be?

The Justice League Part One is due out in theaters November 17, 2017, but Dafoe is expected to appear in both installments.
