According to the AP, the Australian Capital Territory Supreme Court has ruled that it was OK for a mortgage lender to use Facebook to serve a couple documents after they defaulted on a loan — a concept which we find much more frightening than the idea of a potential employer looking at our drunken pictures or favorite TV shows.
Company flak Barry Schnitt put a lovely spin on things: “We’re pleased to see the Australian court validate Facebook as a reliable, secure and private medium for communication. The ruling is also an interesting indication of the increasing role that Facebook is playing in people’s lives.” But unless they’re paying us to play Scramble professionally, we’re not so sure we want Facebook to have more of a role in our lives.
