Meet the New ‘Doctor Who’ Companion Played By Pearl Mackie

Today, Whovians were introduced to the new Doctor Who companion for the 10th season of the show. Pearl Mackie will play a character named Bill, featured in this brief clip with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. In the teaser, the duo hides from Daleks in a space station corridor. The actress replaces Jenna Coleman, who left the role of Clara Oswald last year. Bill will be the Doctor’s 41st companion and the 10th since the 2005 reboot of the sci-fi series. “Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in — I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series,” Mackie told press. Mackie is best known for her theater work, particularly her role in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Season 10 starts filming in May and premieres in spring 2017.
