It’s been a tough year for music and culture fans, and this week was no easier. In the wake of Prince’s death on April 21, AMC and Carmike theaters are showing a weeklong screening of Purple Rain at multiplexes nationwide, starting tonight through April 27. The 1984 rock musical, starring Prince as a semi-autobiographical musician, alongside the singers Apollonia and Morris Day, is tied to the hit-making album of the same name that spawned several chart-topping singles, including “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and “Purple Rain.”

The announcement comes after a series of Prince specials and tributes, including a retrospective episode of Saturday Night Live, called SNL Goodnight Sweet Prince, a clip show featuring his most memorable performances. The tribute will air tonight at 11:30PM.
