Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick Aren’t ‘Troll’ing with This Cyndi Lauper Duet

The Cannes Film Festival momentarily became a 90s college town coffee shop as Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick took the stage to sing an acoustic rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” so earnest (despite coming in support of a film called Trolls) it wouldn’t seem out of place in A Mighty Wind.

The two actor/singer/singer/actors co-star in DreamWorks’ Trolls (Timberlake also serves as the music director for the film), which will be released in theaters on Nov. 4, but had a footage screening (as Rolling Stone notes, only 25 minutes of the film were shown) at Cannes. Introducing the song, Timberlake hinted at the particularly subdued sweetness of their interpretation, calling their duet act “Anna and Garfunkel.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, “True Colors” is featured in the upcoming film, whose soundtrack (which also includes Timberlake’s new single “Can’t Stop the Feeling”) is due out in September.
