The day after Beyoncé gave us all a taste of her Lemonade, there was only one headline that seemed to be bigger than the album’s release itself: “Is Designer Rachel Roy ‘Becky with the Good Hair?'” However, in a rush to attack the expected culprit, the Beyhive accidentally landed on the wrong Rachel — or Rachael. Rachael Ray, the sweet, sweet TV chef that enjoys making pork francaise, is not the same person as Rachel Roy, whose mysterious Instagram post following Lemonade’s release ignited the fire in the first place. (Their names are even spelled differently, for chrissake!)
As dramatic (and traumatic) as the situation seems to have been for both parties, all seems to be well for both Rachel and Rachael now — and Rachael Ray doesn’t seem to be holding any hard feelings against Rachel Roy for being forced to take on the Beyhive’s misdirected anger. Apparently, similar confusion occurred once before when Ray accidentally picked up Roy’s dry-cleaning.
According to a report in US Weekly , Rachael Ray and Rachel Roy both sent each other gifts in the aftermath of Beckygate. At the HealthCorps 10th Annual Garden Gala in New York yesterday, Ray told a rep, “Rachel [Roy] sent me flowers and I sent her a bottle, a big bottle of wine and a straw.” As for what kind of wine Roy received, though, Ray is unsure: “[I was going to send Roy] Brunello di Montalcino, where I was married, but I said for our office to ask her office if she drinks red and if she didn’t drink red, to send Grande Dame. So I don’t know actually which one she got. I wrote the card and she got the straw and the booze.”
But the best part of it all is definitely Ray’s response to the whole ordeal, which seems to be really lighthearted considering how viciously people came at her (and her recipes) online. Describing the whole thing as “hilarious,” Ray admitted, “I thought it was the coolest thing ever! I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? I’m even mentioned in the same sentence as these people? That’s insane. That’s awesome!’” Apparently, the ludicrousness of her actually having an affair with Jay Z allowed her to have a sense of humor about the situation. “I think honestly that it was really much more uncomfortable for the rest of the people in that group than for me. I was like, ‘I’m mixed in with all of those peeps?! What the hell?!’ I mean, it’s so far removed from my life. I’m a cook. I have a little talk show. We chit-chat.”
