2 Chainz Makes a Strong Pro-Muslim, Anti-Trump Statement in Video for “100 Joints”

Two quotes open up 2 Chainz’s music video for his newest single: “There is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population,” and, “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”

The above are direct quotes used by Donal Trump in his campaign for presidency for the 2016 race. As has been central to his campaign from the beginning, these quotes display the same kind of Islamophobic rhetoric that has come to define the multi-billionaire’s outsized personality. 2 Chainz uses them here to make it clear that his video is a very political statement. And that statement is very anti-Trump.

Although the video does feature 2 Chainz, who is definitely not Muslim, popping up periodically to jump around in a kaffiyeh, it’s clear that he isn’t meant to be the central focus. Instead, the viewer follows a traditional Muslim-American family as they eat dinner around the table, shop for groceries, and go to pray at mosque. It all seems pretty natural and, by the end of the video, it’s clear why. It closes with this quote: “Muslim Americans live their day to day life just like all other Americans. They are not all terrorist that hate America.”
