Ewan McGregor Cast as the Lead in ‘Fargo’ Season 3, Will Maybe Play Twins

What’s more prestigious than playing the lead in one of television’s most critically acclaimed shows? How about playing two of them? That’s what Ewan McGregor has set up for himself if today’s news is to be believed, as he’s been cast as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy in the third season of FX’s Fargo. That’s pretty impressive, but it’s not like he’s playing a character with two heads.

The series will reportedly take place much closer to the present day, as the first season — which starred Allison Tolman and Martin Freeman — was set in the early oughts. The second, which starred Kirsten Dunst and Patrick Wilson, was set in the ’70s. Also, it’s probably safe to assume that this third season will take place during the winter.

McGregor is the only star so far attached to the series, but, given the ensemble nature of the past seasons, it’s likely a very extensive cast will be announced in the coming weeks. Production has (obviously) not started, but it’s slated to air in 2017.
