Nefarious Bill Hader to Play Hitman in New HBO Comedy

Bill Hader has always had a menacing presence. Ever since he donned the Stefon outfit for SNL, you just knew: this guy is a killer. No big surprise then that he’s set to star as a bottom-tier hitman in a new comedy series from HBO. It’ll be called Barry, and Hader just might be playing a guy named Barry.

Barry is a depressed ex-Marine who kills people for a living. Originally settled in the Midwest, Barry accepts a hit in the Los Angeles area, and, after traveling there, bingo, he bonds with depressed actors in the theater scene. One would suspect he would then begin killing people who are mean to the actors, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Also likely is that he’ll just be a nice guy who no longer kills anyone, but has to deal with his secret somehow being revealed as he befriends the person he’s meant to kill, etc., etc.

The pilot for the show was directed by Hader, and he co-wrote the show with Alec Berg, who is an exec producer on Silicon Valley. The series will co-star Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Glenn Fleshler. It won’t begin filming until next year (2017), so don’t get too excited yet.
