James Corden Preps for the Tony Awards, Sings Karaoke with Some of Broadway’s Best

In February, it was announced that James Corden would be this year’s host of the Tony Awards. And, with the award show right around the corner (June 12!), it’s fitting that he’s palling around with Hamilton‘s own Lin-Manuel Miranda. Yesterday’s “Carpool Karaoke” bit from the Late Late Show pretty much served as a pre-game for Sunday’s Tony Awards as Miranda and Corden cruised around Manhattan singing musical numbers. The duo almost immediately broke into Hamilton’s opening number as they were forced to sit tragically in Manhattan’s midday traffic. Later, they impressively took on the tongue-twisting “Guns and Ships,” originally sung by Daveed Diggs’ Marquis de Lafayette.

Eventually, some other stars squeezed into Corden’s car, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Audra McDonald, and Jane Krakowski. Musical numbers are not new to Corden’s repertoire, having graced Broadway stages himself, and more recently played the role of the baker in Into The Woods. To say the very least Corden was more than keeping up, if not maybe getting too into it, as he often does.

When they weren’t exchanging advice on how best to host the Tonys, the quintet took on Rent‘s “Seasons of Love,” and, of course, concluded with Les Miserables’ “One Day More.”

The Tony Awards air this Sunday, and we’re sure Corden will sing some more.
