David Letterman Seems Quite Over ‘The Late Show,’ Wonders Why a Woman Didn’t Get His Spot

Fun fact, I’m wondering too.

With certainty and speed Letterman replied, “you know, I don’t” when asked if he missed hosting The Late Show. Letterman has stayed away from many media interactions recently, but took the time to sit down with Tom Brokaw for the upcoming show On Assignment, a limited series for Dateline NBC.

Naturally the late night spot was a highly sought after one, and Stephen Colbert was lucky enough to get it. But as Colbert continues to struggle with maintaining ratings, maybe there’s more reason why Letterman is glad those days are behind him. In the interview, the former host explains some of the reasons why he doesn’t miss hosting while also questioning why a woman didn’t take his place. He said:

I couldn’t care less about late-night television. I’m happy for the guys – men and women – there should be more women. And I don’t know why they didn’t give my show to a woman. That would have been fine.

On Assignment featuring David Letterman airs Sunday, June 12 at 7 p.m. but you can watch a preview of the interview below.
