Red Hot Chili Peppers Strip Down, Wrestle James Corden on “Carpool Karaoke”

If the Red Hot Chili Peppers are going to appear on a show, things better get weird. And that’s exactly what happened on the latest iteration of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke.”

Opening with their classic “Can’t Stop,” the band’s bassist Flea immediately concluded the song with his rendition of “Food Glorious Food” from Oliver! The Musical. The reason? Absolutely none, but it’s Flea and they’re the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so we let it go.

As you may or may not know, Flea and lead singer Anthony Kiedis were childhood friends, but Flea mentions how he used to bully Kiedis’ former best friend. After Flea explains how he had never been in a fight, Corden is surprised and says, “I love a good man wrestle.” Don’t we all, especially when the two grappling are Corden and Kiedis. As you may have guessed, Kiedis quickly took down Corden, who surrendered after being pinned.

Corden later makes a comment about how he didn’t recognize Kiedis because he was wearing clothes. The band, specifically Kiedis and Flea, are known for performing and existing topless at all times. (And, just so you know, both of their bodies are still better than most men I know.) Anyway, following Corden’s comments, in typical Kiedis fashion, he took that topic as a cue to start stripping, and Flea and Corden followed suit. Honestly, their bods were not too bad for a Tuesday morning.

This was, of course, all in an effort to promote The Getaway, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first record since 2011. It will be released this Friday, June 17.
