Now that the presidential election is less than six months away, it’s time for the rhetoric to get really heated. (No, it wasn’t already heated enough.) That’s the only way to justify the existence of this recent video in which Rage Against the Machine/Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello lists all of the ways Trump is a horrible person. The video serves as an intro to Ryan Harvey’s new song, “Old Man Trump,” which is a play on Woody Guthrie’s song of the same name, which was dedicated to Fred Trump in the ’50s. So I guess that’s also a justification.
Basically, the video is just Morello and his trusty guitar, and he’s talking straight at the camera. He’s saying this:
“When it comes to race relations, he’s like an old-school segregationist. When it comes to foreign policy, he’s like an old-school napalmist. When it comes to women’s issues, he’s like a frat-house rapist. So, let’s not elect that guy. And I want you to stand up against Old Man Trump, too. Not just him, but the history that he represents and the policies he puts forward.”
Morello himself is on Harvey’s new song, and so is Ani DiFranco. Morello and his Prophets of Rage (featuring members of Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy) are touring the country soon, so this is probably not the last time we’ll hear him attacking Trump.
