Here’s J Mascis Testing Chuck Taylors That Feature a Built-In Wah Pedal

No, it’s not April Fools’ Day: Converse really has unveiled a new shoe called the Converse All Wah, which is the classic Chuck Taylor silhouette, only with a Wah Wah pedal built right in to one of the shoes. All you’ve got to do is plug your guitar into one side and your amp (or laptop) into the other, and you’ve got a wearable Wah Wah. Pretty cool, right? (But also, maybe dangerous and kind of a tripping hazard, and also not great for people who want to move around, and also maybe just a gimmick, and also maybe just for show?)

Anyway, to demonstrate the all-powerful Wah Wah-in-Chuck invention, Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis takes them for a spin in this little promo video. It seems to work OK, according to the Wah-Lord, but one really has to question the practicality of these things. Plus, what if Chucks just don’t go with your stage outfit?

The shoe was designed by Cute Circuit. It involves a lot of technological wizardry, but basically there’s a sensor in the shoe that communicates wirelessly to an actual Wah Box, which kind of makes the whole idea of the shoe seem a little redundant. But, hey, if you can have a pedal in your shoe, why not do it?
