HBO has released a teaser trailer for Insecure, the new comedy series from co-creators Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore, premiering this fall.
Based on Rae’s award-winning web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Insecure has been in the works at HBO since 2013, and was finally ordered to series in the fall of 2015. Insecure follows the friendship of two black women, played by Rae and Yvonne Orji, and their “racy tribulations.” Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce also star.
“Black women aren’t bitter,” Rae’s character says to a room full of schoolchildren in the trailer. “They’re just tired of being expected to settle for less.” “Her outfit settle for less!” one girl responds to raucous laughter. HBO could use a good comedy right about now; if this trailer is any indication, Insecure will be a welcome new addition.
