Rihanna to Play Marion Crane on ‘Bates Motel’s’ Final Season

Rihanna is headed to the small screen for the fifth and final season of Bates Motel. The singer has been cast in the iconic role of Marion Crane, played by the late Janet Leigh in Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Crane — an office worker who takes off with $40,000 — was murdered in the famous shower scene, which used extreme close-ups, fast cuts, a screeching soundtrack by composer Bernard Herrmann, and the sound of a knife plunged into a melon to create the unsettling segment.

Rihanna will star alongside Bates Motel’s Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, and Nestor Carbonell. The news broke at Comic-Con during a panel discussion put on by the A&E series.

“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way,” said executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin in a press release. “We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
