Watch: Kate McKinnon Continues Her Portrayal of Wonderfully Weird Characters in Mainstream Comedies in New Trailer

One of the biggest takeaways from the Ghostbusters movie for critics was that Kate McKinnon was really damn funny, and transcended some otherwise pretty obvious or flat standard Hollywood humor. Flavorwire’s own Jason Bailey said, “the picture’s MVP is McKinnon, who comes on like a goddamn thunderbolt and is funny literally every second she’s onscreen,” and the same looks to go (at least for the just-released trailer of) Josh Gordon and Will Speck’s Office Christmas Party.

Office Christmas Party, whose trailer comes a while in advance of its December 9 release date, has a couple veteran big name Hollywood comedy actors leading: Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, who themselves are both rather talented as comic leads, but whose projects tend toward the very-forgettable. So it’s a few of the lesser known ensemble cast-members who make it more intriguing than any other broad Hollywood comedy, with McKinnon, SNL‘s Vanessa Bayer, and Veep‘s endlessly hilarious Sam Richardson appearing in the trailer as soon-to-be perpetrators/victims of whatever tomfoolery is about to go down at the titular office Christmas party.

The film sees Aniston playing a company CEO who’s trying to shut down her brother’s (Silicon Valley‘s T.J. Miller) branch of the company. In order to turn that process around, Miller enlists his CTO (Bateman) to help him throw a Christmas party massive enough to impress a potential client and land a deal that’ll save everyone’s jobs. McKinnon appears to be a colleague who, from what the trailer reveals, enjoys cheese and bad sweaters and has a secret wild side. Olivia Munn also stars.
