Intimate Paintings of Women in Their Bedrooms

Share:

South Carolina-based artist Karen Ann Myers paints intimate portraits of women in their bedrooms. “The work is inspired by the cult of beauty in contemporary mass media,” Myers writes on her website. “Intricately painted, decorative interiors are invented to titillate the viewer.” She begins each piece by creating a detailed marker drawing, followed by thin layers of oil paint — a process that requires time, contemplation, and care, which mirrors her reflective subjects (who are aware they are being looked at). See more of Myers’ work, which we first spotted on Juxtapoz, in our gallery.
