Carey, who worked with Empire co-creator Lee Daniels on his 2009 film Precious, has been rumored to join the series for over a year now. As the trailer indicates, she’ll finally be making an appearance as a superstar called Kitty in the new season, which premieres on Fox on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
