Drake Releases 20-Minute Action Film Based on ‘Views’

Drake’s album Views seemed to slowly be conceding to the popularity of newer releases, until this week, when it returned to #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. With the album returning to focus (in its 13th week overall atop the charts), it seems the perfect time for Drake to release new material based on it — and so he has. The rapper shared on Instagram in the wee hours of the morning that the new short film (but in actually not that short at all — it runs 20 minutes) titled “Please Forgive Me” was out exclusively on Apple Music. For those who don’t subscribe to Apple Music, however, there is that Instagram post, which at least provides a vague, fragmented (guns! fire! sex! money!) dosage of what Drake’s action-thriller-sort-of-music-video is:

The film, which many have noted takes inspiration from the plot of Indecent Proposal, is set primarily in Soweto (in Johannesburg), and stars Drake, Belgian actress Fanny Neguesha, Popcaan, and Kyla Reid, and sees Drake and his onscreen girlfriend (no, dammit, it’s not Rihanna) enmeshed in a scheme to take $1 million gone terribly awry. (As any plan must to become the subject of an action movie.) It was co-directed by prolific music video director (and frequent Drake collaborator) Anthony Mandler, and features an assortment of Views tracks — though it gives emphasis to “Controlla” and “One Dance.” Watch the whole film on Apple Music.
