Amazon Orders a Full Season of ‘I Love Dick’ (And Some Other Shows)

Praise Goddess: Amazon has greenlit I Love Dick, a half-hour dramedy based on Chris Kraus’s seminal, autobiographical 1997 novel of the same name.

The pilot of I Love Dick, adapted for the screen by Transparent creator Jill Soloway and playwright Sarah Gubbins, was made available to Amazon Prime subscribers in late August, along with two other comedies, The Tick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, which have also been ordered to series. But I Love Dick was the clear standout in the bunch — brainy yet sensuous, witty and full of terrific performances, particularly from Kathryn Hahn, who stars as a woman who accompanies her older husband from New York City to a writer’s retreat in Marfa, Texas and falls for the smoldering, horseback-riding, cowboy hat-wearing Dick, played by Kevin Bacon.

The full series (all three of them, but in case you hadn’t noticed I’ve got tunnel vision here) will hit Amazon Prime in 2017. For now, you’ll have to tide yourself over with the pilot, which is still available for Prime subscribers and which holds up well to obsessive multiple viewings. Trust me.
