Robin Thicke — remember him? — has a new single out today. This would be entirely unremarkable news, except for the fact that the song features an a capella intro from Nas, of all people. Quite what Nas is doing on this track is anyone’s guess, but his verse is great — it references the all-too-familiar circumstances of police killing after police killing, and ends with Nas lamenting having to explain to his young son that he can’t play with a water gun because police will see him as a threat and quite possibly kill him. The rest of the song is largely meh, and even calling it a collaboration is a “stretch” — Nas’s verse is tacked on at the start and bears little relation to the rest of the track — but it’s good to hear the great man on form.
