It was announced a while ago that St. Vincent would be directing one segment of a four-part horror anthology feature — and now there’s a trailer revealing a bit of Annie Clark’s horrific vision.
Her directorial debut, within the XX anthology (a film with all women directors) is titled “Birthday Party.” From what the trailer reveals, it sees the excellent Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness, Heavenly Creatures, But I’m a Cheerleader) at …a birthday party. And from her expression it looks as though she’s not enjoying the birthday party — to the point where it must be horrific! And then we see this:

XX, which has no relation to the indie band, is out in theaters and VOD on February 17. The trailer also teases the films from the other three directors, Karyn Kusama (“Her Only Living Son”), Roxanne Benjamin (“Don’t Fall), and Jovanka Vuckovic (“The Box”). (The film also features work by animator Sofia Carrillo that, per /Film, works as the connective thread.)
