Season two of Better Call Saul left viewers with a big teaser, spelled out in the first letter of every episode title. “Frings Back” was the answer to the riddle — and now fans of the Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould series are getting just what was promised. Giancarlo Esposito will reprise his role as drug kingpin Gus Fring on the third season of Better Call Saul, which is set to premiere on April 10.
Esposito’s fan-favorite character first appeared in Gilligan’s Breaking Bad — the nemesis to high-school teacher turned meth lord Walter White. His life came to a gruesome end in the series, but knowing Fring’s back story will be a treat for fans. Earlier this week, we saw a fake television commercial for Fring’s fried chicken fast food chain, but the Saturday Television Critics Association confirmed the teaser was a reality.
“It’s really great to be back with such a great family of filmmakers and I’m so, so honored to be asked to come back and recreate this character, Gustavo Fring,” Esposito told press. “I had to remind myself in coming back to be present within the character and that we’re at a time where he’s a little more immature than where we left off. I reminded myself that he’s still finding his ways, the businessman that he his and finding his way in regard to where we left off, where he was at with the cartel. So I’m excited to be back.”
