The Best and Worst of Last Night’s ‘SNL’ with Octavia Spencer

Share:

Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in Hidden Figures, joined the SNL crew last evening and took a few digs at Trump, awards shows, and her own Hollywood history. (Has Spencer really played a nurse nine times? Ugh.) Despite being thrown some real stinkers during the episode, Spencer handled it all with grace, enthusiasm, and humor. See how it all went down last night, below.

The Best

“Jeff Sessions Gump Cold Open”

“I have a pie I baked especially for you. . . . ”

“Octavia Spencer Monologue”

“I guess I have what Hollywood calls ‘resting nurse face.'”

“Republican Movie Trailer”

We won’t hold our breath. At least Caitlyn Jenner got the ball rolling?

“Girl at a Bar”

Also known as: “Girl on the Internet, Girl in the Workplace, Girl in. . . . ”

“Zoo-opalis Voice Actors”

A total impression dump with new faces and some legit funny moments.

“Youngblood”

Basically all of us when it comes to chess.

“Sticky Bun”

The closing line is the best part.

The Worst

“Drug Company Hearing”

What (old) white man came up with this recycled, casually racist joke?

“Weekend Update”

I’m all Trump’d out I guess.

“Wine Bar”

How many uncomfortable jokes about race can we survive this episode? Octavia Spencer deserves better.

“The Chocolate Man”

What is happening. . . .

“Spencers Gifts HQ”

It’s a one-note joke that is amusing for a hot minute, but the ratio of terrible and funny in this episode is too imbalanced to give this one a pass.
