One of the more unlikely stories in music over the last few years has been the emergence of an energy drink as a sort of patron saint of experimental and innovative music. Red Bull’s involvement with music started with its DJ Academy project in the late ’90s and has blossomed into the Red Bull Music Academy, which has been responsible for some of the most interesting shows we’ve seen in recent years. The project returns to NYC in May this year, and today the academy announced its full line-up (the details are below). Of particular interest are the show celebrating the 10-year anniversary of NYC experimental institution and Flavorwire favorite Sacred Bones — featuring Jenny Hval, Blanck Mass, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, Psychic Ills and a whole bunch of others — along with Solange’s one-off dance project at the Guggenheim, and the celebration of Alice Coltrane’s music at Knockdown Center. But there’s something in there for pretty much everyone. Huzzah!
