When we last saw Jamie and Claire (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) in the Season 2 finale of Outlander, they were parting ways after Claire finally found her way back to the time-traveling stones at Craigh na Dun — and Jamie was preparing to fight in the Battle of Culloden, a fight that the Highlanders will not win. In a new teaser trailer for the show’s third season, which premieres this fall, Jamie is determined to find his way back to Claire.
Season 3 picks up with Claire back in her native 1948, married to Frank (Tobias Menzies) — and pregnant. Meanwhile, back in the 18th century, Jamie is mourning both the loss of the historic battle — and the Highland culture that was largely wiped out in its wake — and Claire, the love of his life. We know these two will eventually find their way back to each other, partly because that’s what happens in the book series on which the show is based, and partly because the steamy chemistry between Balfe and Heughan is a major draw of this series. It’s clear they’ll reunite at some point; the question is how, and when?
The thirteen-episode third season premieres in September and is based on the third book in Diana Gabaldon’s series; production is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa. Watch the trailer below:
