If you haven’t yet had enough of Michael Moore smugly reminding you that he predicted Trump’s victory (of course, he also predicted Romney’s; he doesn’t talk so much about that one), boy have I got good news for you: Variety reports the filmmaker has inked a deal with Bob and Harvey Weinstein to distribute Fahrenheit 11/9, a secretly-in-production documentary targeting Donald Trump. The title is an oh-so-clever play on Election Day 2016 by way of Fahrenheit 9/11, his Cannes-winning box office smash of 2004, also distributed by the Weinsteins; he has reportedly reunited much of that film’s team for this follow-up.
This comes hard on the heels of the filmmaker, author, speaker, and gadfly’s announcement of Michael Moore on Broadway: The Terms of My Surrender, a reminder that although Moore insists, “There’s a bubble in Brooklyn, folks, and it’s toxic,” he doesn’t mind pocketing a few bucks from said bubble. Its ads ask, “Can a Broadway show bring down a sitting President?”; Moore is making similar promises about the new film.
“No matter what you throw at him, it hasn’t worked,” he says. “No matter what is revealed, he remains standing. Facts, reality, brains cannot defeat him. Even when he commits a self-inflicted wound, he gets up the next morning and keeps going and tweeting. That all ends with this movie.”
So no worries everyone, Trump ends with this movie, just like Michael Moore in Trumpland kept Trump out of the White House and Fahrenheit 9/11 prevented Bush’s second term. Imagine how terrible things would be if Michael Moore didn’t keep saving us with his movies!
