Just to get this out of the way if you weren’t already aware: there is a real VICELAND series, written by and starring James Van Der Beek, called What Would Diplo Do? in the works. Indeed, the world of TV is so expansive that now things that sound like they emerged from a game of Exquisite Corpse are able to get made — and for the most part, that’s something to be thankful for. This series is a scripted mockumentary comedy about the artistic trials and tribulations and of a certain Diplo, and all of the parties that accompany those trials and tribulations. And from its just released trailer, it actually looks very, very funny.
Lines like “there’s no I in team,” “yeah but there’s an I in Diplo,” or a heavily German accented man delivering the line, “sometimes I think your head is a little oven that only bakes bad ideas” to faux Diplo certainly exhibit great potential for a spoof of DJdom, via a character based on Thomas Wesley Pentz, aka the man who produces everything and calls himself a name that sounds like something you do to a breadstick when you want to make sure it gets all the sauce.
What Would Diplo Do? premieres on August 3 at 9 p.m. on VICELAND.
