Jay Z’s New Video for “Moonlight” Recreates ‘Friends’ with Issa Rae and More

Master of None co-creator Alan Yang directed Jay Z’s new video for “Moonlight” from the artist’s latest album 4:44. The short recreates the cult (extremely white) TV series Friends, casting Insecure’s Issa Rae, Get Out’s Lil’ Rel Howery, Tessa Thompson, Tiffany Haddish, Jerrod Carmichael, and Lakeith Stanfield. Comedian Hannibal Buress joins them.

Also featured is audio from that dreaded night of the 2017 Oscars when Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as Best Picture winner instead of Moonlight. Beatty was given the duplicate Best Actress envelope, which listed Emma Stone as a winner for her role in La La Land. Eventually La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz announced Moonlight as the correct winner. Not. Good.

If you have Tidal, you can watch the video now on the streaming service. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until next week. In the meantime, here’s a clip from Rae and Yang’s Instagram. Head to The Root for screenshots.
