The 69th Primetime Emmys (nice) were handed out last night, accompanied by a few big stories. Chief among them: a celebration of women’s stories, with Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, and Outstanding Limited Series all going to shows with female protagonists (The Handmaid’s Tale, Veep, and Big Little Lies, respectively). And it was a big night for actors of color as well, as Riz Ahmed won Lead Actor in a Limited Series for The Night Of, Sterling K. Brown took home Lead Actor in a Drama Series for This is Us, and Donald Glover won the complementary prize for Comedy Series for Atlanta – in addition to taking the prize for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. (He lost the prize for Writing in a Comedy Series to another actor-turned-creator, Master of None’s Aziz Ansari.). Oh, and there was a really stupid sketch with Sean Spicer, don’t ask, you don’t wanna know.
